Youth Sailing Lessons Ages 7-10
It is our goal to provide a fun, engaging and safe environment for your children to experience sailing on the most beautiful lake in West Michigan. This year we are offering classes that will meet every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday beginning June 11 and ending on August 16. Beginner classes and intermediate classes both offered.
Youth Beginners Learn to Sail-Ages 7-10
$325 per two week session

Session 1: June 17, June 18, June 19, June 24, June 25 & June 26
Session 2: July 8, July 9, July 10, July 15, July 16, & July 17
Session 3: July 22, July 23, July 24, July 29, July 30, & July 31
Session 4: August 5, August 6, August 7, August 12, August 13 & August 14
This course meets three days a week and provides an introduction to sailing. Basic nomenclature, boat handling, and safety will be taught. Classes begin with land-based discussions and demonstrations followed by on-the-water instruction where skills like upwind sailing, downwind sailing, reaching, and docking are covered. At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Rig/de-rig a sailing dinghy with a minimum amount of help
• Demonstrate responsibility for personal safety
• Practice sun safety and select proper clothing for conditions
• Assess sailing conditions
• Understand port/starboard rule
• Sail around a triangle course
• Capsize and right a sailing dinghy

Youth Intermediate Learn to Sail: Ages 11 and Up

This course meets three days a week. Beginner classes and intermediate classes both offered. In addition to the skills listed above, participants will increase their knowledge of sailing as a sport and understand the roles of helming and crewing on a 420 dinghy. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
• Rig/de-rig a sailing dinghy with a minimum amount of help
• Demonstrate responsibility for personal safety
• Practice sun safety and select proper clothing for conditions
• Assess sailing conditions
• Understand port/starboard rule
• Sail around a triangle course
• Capsize and right a sailing dinghy
• Crew on a 420 dinghy
• Helm on a 420 dinghy
• Understand basic right of way rules
• Complete an organized race as a skipper
• Rig and de-rig a 420 dinghy
• Launch and retrieve a 420 dinghy
• Capsize and rescue a singlehanded dinghy

Additional Educational Opportunities:
Private and semi-private lessons are available. Private lesson rates are $100 per hour / 2 hour minimum.
